Forward Head and Rounded Shoulders
Hey everyone.
I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about a couple of physical syndromes that seem to be more prevalent in today’s society than ever: Forward Head Syndrome and Rounded Shoulders (also known as Kyphosis).
My airplane ride a couple of weeks ago really got me focused on these physical issues and the more I remain aware of them the more I see them every where I go.
Please watch this video, its an important one:
And oh, sorry, I had a mind-stall while I was recording and couldn’t remember the name of the back muscles in the middle of your back: those are your Trapezius muscles, and Rhomboids. So, yep, work your Latissimus Dorsi (sides of your back) and work your Traps and Rhomboids too, ok?
Lots of Dumbbell, Barbell or Cable Rows and Reverse Flyes!!
Lets get our shoulders back where they belong by strengthening the muscles that hold them back there.
While you’re at it do some stretching for your chest so your chest muscles aren’t too tight and holding your shoulders forward. Stretching the front of your neck and strengthening the back of your neck can’t hurt either!!
Here’s today’s Workout Song of the Day … as usual I do my best to keep the song in line with the post.
Anyone I’ve ever seen marching, in a parade or half-time at a football game or wherever, always seem to have great posture, don’t they?
Therefore, today’s song is called “The Marching Song” and its GREAT for cardio. It has a great driving beat to drive you forward!! Enjoy!
THE POINTED STICKS – The Marching Song
Don’t forget: if you love it, go get it. Just click on the Buy button on the player widget and it whisks you off to Amazon’s music area. Super easy!
That’s it for today gang!! Hope you have a great week planned. My computer is getting dissected again tomorrow so I have no idea when I’ll be back, but I hope its soon! Wish me luck!

Hey,
Enjoyed your vlog. Damn! Now I’m all paranoid about my posture! LOL I will be paying more attention to my shoulder and head alignment…throw in some extra rows ;) Was curious about your running routine. What’s your running program? Again, I’ve been enjoying your blog.

Thanks John. I tried to follow you on Twitter but it says that page doesn’t exist… are you real? LOL
yes, definitely pay attn to your posture, glad my tips were helpful. As for my running routine I fluctuate between flat-path endurance running, endurance running with steep hills and stairwells, and HIIT like hillsprints and flat-path :30/:30 sprint/walk interval training.
thanks for the note.

Ha! Last time I checked I was real. I don’t think I’m made of wood and my dad’s name isn’t Japetto. :) Make sure you’re using the underscore _ when looking for me on twitter and leave off the @ if you’re using the search function. Kasumi Gakure means “hiding in the mist.” I enjoy practicing ninjutsu here in the states. Thanks for responding to my questions. Hope you’re having a great day.

The timing of your blog is extremely coincidental,
I’ve just started focusing on posture after years of running with a mix of kyphosis and lordosis. I have weekly physio and have also taken up tai chi! Anyone reading this who fears they have poor posture should be careful, rounded shoulders cause a knock on effect, this ecentually pushes the small of your back further in and the natural curve of your spine further out. Eventually the natural (slight) S of your spine will become more pronoucned and this can cause discomfort.
Leaning your head and shoulders forward when you run also reduces your efficiency which will make you tire quicker. Not good for long distance runners.

Thanks for the input Rich… yes, its a much more serious issue than people give it credit for. Thanks for the elaboration, very helpful!
