Is It DOMS? Or Is It Muscle Strain?
HAHA…. remember that old commercial?
“Is it Live? Or is it Memorex?”
I find that line funny with respect to this post title … or is it just me losing my mind?
Yup, me losing my mind. And it wouldn’t be the first time. LOL
So, I’ve got some lower back issues after some deadlifts the other day.
Are the deadlifts to blame?
Or did I sleep funny?
I dunno.
How do YOU tell if its DOMS or a strain when you’re stiff?
So … seriously!! How do YOU know? I really want to know. Make sure you post your comment below and let’s compare notes.
Today’s Workout Song of the Day:
Warning: It’s a harsh one today. But GREAT for lifting (lots of angst) or cardio (hard driving beat), so check it out!

That’s a very good question. I’m not sure that you can tell right off the bat like that. It’s possible that you strained a muscle. It only being on the one side is interesting, especially with an exercise like deads.
I’d take a couple days off, and see how it feels.

thanks for that Todd. I wasn’t actually asking you to diagnose ME, I was asking YOU how YOU tell on YOU when you’ve strained something or if it’s just DOMS.
I don’t need a couple of days off… it’s not bad enough for that.

I’ve done the same thing… one side sore when theoretically it should have been both and sometimes not even knowing what did it. And it feels better when I exercise it as long as I don’t work it too hard. I figure if it lasts more than a couple days, I’ve strained it so I take it easy on it. If it’s better in a couple days, it was DOMS.

My bad. Wasn’t trying to diagnose you. That is what I do. It’s a timing thing. DOMS usually only lasts for a day or two. If it nags beyond that, I assume that it’s a strain. Being on one side, if it were me, I’d lean towards the strain, and backing off.

AH!! Ok, cool. Yah, I have a hard time with taking time off, especially if I can get away with an ALTERNATE exercise I’d do that rather than slack it (in this case running didn’t cause further pain). Thanks for the comment!

KB Witch, that sounds about like my line of thinking too. :-) Usually its really easy to tell, usually DOMS has a very distinct feeling and a strain is different but this time it just messed me up because it I didn’t feel the strain happen and it wasn’t healing the way I expected it to.
cheers.
