Have To? Want To? Get To? Need To?
What’s your “headspace” when it comes to your workouts?
Do you HAVE to?
Do you WANT to?
Do you GET to?
… or …
Do you NEED to?
If you continuously feel like you HAVE to work out, then it’s time to make some changes … not only to your mindset, but probably also to what you’re doing for your workouts.
It makes more sense if you watch this:
Okay? Now get out there and find a way to love what you do for your workouts.
If just challenging yourself isn’t enough to help you love what you’re doing, then go change what you’re doing.
There are countless ways to get a workout … don’t feel like you’re trapped doing something that you just don’t love.
It really will help you feel like you “GET TO” (and ultimately “NEED TO“) work out!
And you’ll get a better workout as a result.
Have a fit, fun and fantastic day.

Not only do I want to and get to workout…I NEEEEEEED to workout!!! lol.
Like you said…its a drug for me…if I don’t get to workout, I start having withdrawals….and that ain’t a pretty sight!
I guess “need to” covers two areas: those that have to workout for maintaining sanity and those that need to…for health reasons!
Nice one.

I need to workout – for my health and my sanity. I love the feeling I get after a great workout and how it gives me the energy I need to get through my day. I just wish my foot would get better so I can run again! I miss being outside and enjoying the beautiful weather!
great post!

Great post :)
There are a lot of reasons people start training. But IMHO there’s only one reason that’s compelling enough to keep ORDINARY people training over the long term (and by long term, I mean, for life) … because they LEARN to enjoy it (or as you say, they at least learn to enjoy aspects of it).
Yes, there are a SMALL segment of people who will continue training, over a long period of time, even though they don’t enjoy it (some athletes are like this) … but, in general, people tend to keep doing the things they enjoy and eventually stop doing the things they don’t.
You’ve given some great advice in this post. Here are some more things to think about …
1. Love of exercise is contagious. This works both ways … For the trainer … If you truly love what you do, then your clients will pick up on this and both consciously and unconsciously start looking for the ‘reasons for your enjoyment’. For the trainee … If you train with people who love to move, you will eventually love to move too … it happens. Bottom line … It is VERY important who you chose to train with.
2. Exercise is an acquired taste … Just because your initial experience of a particular fitness activity or exercise was bad, you shouldn’t write it off. Give exercise time …
3. There’s a lot of different kinds of exercise. Yes, even though I said exercise is an acquired taste … some types of exercise will always taste like crap to certain people … we’re all different. We all have our own preferences. Movement is no different. If, after giving a particular ‘genre’ of exercise a fair go, you still don’t like it, DON’T give up on exercise, simply try another. Treat fitness as an ongoing experiment … try and find a collection of exercises that you really do enjoy.
4. Don’t put all your fitness eggs in one basket … Make the effort to find a few different styles of exercise that you enjoy. I’ve noticed a lot of people fixate on ONE genre of fitness. But what happens if you’re into running and it’s raining? What happens if you’re into zumba and your instructor is sick? What happens if you’re into a sport that doesn’t run all year around? What happens if you’re into bushwalking but you get a leg injury? I’m not saying it’s wrong to have a favorite type of exercise. All I’m suggesting is that you compliment what you’re doing with other fitness options.
At any rate, I’ve rambled on long enough.
Enjoyed stopping by, Foxy!
You are a continuing inspiration to me :)
Keep up the great work.

I tell myself at my age if I don’t workout my body parts will be dragging on the ground LOL.
Working out is my sanity. There’s so much I can’t control at least I can control how many push ups I can do, well most of the time. I know that my stress level will get better and I can think better and hey I’ll look better in my jeans if I work out. So I do it and am darn happy when it’s done. Ya Ho!
