You Weight Train … But Are Gloves Really Necessary?
Do you do right by yourself and get good, hard ‘n heavy weight training workouts in regularly?
Boy, I hope I’m hearing a resounding “YEAH BABY!!!”
(and yes, chicks, I want to hear that answer from you, too…)
So, since you’re attacking the iron with gusto, do you wear weight training gloves to protect your hands?
Or are they just a bother, in the way, or not worth the investment, in your opinion?
Do you skip the gloves and wear your callouses with pride? Me too… until now.
Here’s my (new and improved) opinion on that subject (and I think you’ll enjoy seeing what I’ve done to myself over the years):
So, LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES WOULD YA?
Go get yourself a pair of good training gloves NOW.
And don’t turn your hands into a detriment to getting your BEST workout possible, like I did.
Never mind turning your hands into a gnarly mess (like I also did) …
… gee I hope it’s not too late to backtrack this damage !!
I’ve learned my lesson and now I know better …
Gloves it is!!
Have a fit, fun and fantastic day!

I find it ironic u think the callouses are proof you are serious about getting fit and healthy. Have u looked in the mirror? lol
The evidence is in the health of your body not in the vanity and pride in your callouses. Thank you for the honesty! Keep up the great work!

You got a point there Jackie. As I mentioned before in my twitter, I used to wear ones kind of a mix leather & cloth that for some reason didn’t sweat that much…can’t remember the brand name….
Gotta get back to gloves….Don’t you feel your strength increases while wearing them..? or is it just me?
Good Advice, take care..

Thanks for this. I have always stubbornly refused to wear gloves, too, but it’s now effecting my heavier lifts. Those callouses HURT! I’m at the point where I’m gonna give in and get gloves. This post pushed me over the top…I’m doing it! :)

I don’t care about callouses. I file them off when they get a nuisance. What I do care about are the gloves messing with my grip. That’s the main reason I don’t wear them.
But than again, I don’t wear panty-hoses do I.

hey HEY HEY!!! Be Nice!!! LOL… but I hear ya Wazzup… I hear ya. This is one of the reasons I haven’t worn them up til now… but again, I state: the pain of the pinching of the callouses is now messing with my grip, so gloves may actually HELP my grip rather than hinder it at the moment (at least until these callouses calm down).
thanks for the comment.

Funny, you call them your “badges”.
Well, its for the exact same reason I started wearing gloves years ago. And like you said, the biggest problem for me was with the pullups. When I was doing them it felt like your whole hand was on fire because calluses would be stretching and ripping off.

I shake lots of hands during the week… I can’t have callouses. Wearing gloves are the way to go. Besides a strong handshake says a lot.
