What REALLY happens as you get older? (and we all do…)
I just got back from my cardio session out on the seawall and I did some heavy thinking while I was running.
Listen up here, ok? I’ve got something important to share with you.
I was thinking about ‘aging’ and what happens to us as we age.
And we all DO age. As much as we might want to be in denial about this one, I’m sure you can ultimately agree on that point, right?
Let’s face it, we HAVE to age … because the alternative isn’t such a great option.
So, what DOES happen to us as we age?
Ever heard of “SARCOPENIA”??
This is the process of losing muscle as we get older. It CAN happen to EVERYONE.
And what that results in is: loss of coordination, loss of flexibility, loss of MOBILITY!
Do you want to continue simply being able to MOVE AROUND comfortably and continue being active even as you get older? Of course you do. We all do.
Well then, you’d better do something NOW about Sarcopenia.
So, how do you PREVENT Sarcopenia? It’s actually pretty damn simple.
Don’t let your muscles sit around unused. If you USE them, you get to KEEP them.
If you don’t use them, you lose them.
Yes, it IS THAT SIMPLE.
Now, I know I’ve preached this like a thousand times before. But I’m going to say it again now.
DO YOU HAVE A MUSCLE BUILDING COMPONENT in your health, fitness and weight loss programs?
Well, if you don’t, you bloody well SHOULD!
It’s the BEST way to prevent Sarcopenia from claiming you as it’s next victim.
And if preventing Sarcopenia isn’t enough of a reason for you, how about the fact that trained muscle burns more calories (even at rest) than untrained muscle or fat does? (psst, this means you get to enjoy more food without worrying that it’s packing on the pounds all the time)
I know I’m being a bit preachy today. But this is SERIOUS STUFF!! You’ve got to learn how to hang on to your muscle NOW (and build even more) so that you can continue to enjoy living instead of just sitting around waiting to die.

I’ve always sort of hinted around about my age being ‘over 40’ … but I’ve never admitted my actual age out loud (hey, it’s a woman’s prerogative, right?).
Well, here it is: I’m going to be turning 46 in less than a month. FORTY FREAKING SIX! (where DOES the time go?)
Do you think I look pretty good for my age? Not to toot my own horn but I’ve been told over and over that I do. And I always feel grateful for the compliments, but I WORKED for this. I DESERVE it.

Here’s another thing … I hear all the time from women that they refuse to strength train … because they’re worried about ‘bulking up’.
C’MON!! Don’t we ALL know better than that by NOW?
Again, in response to this concern I point at myself.
I weight train and I weight train HEAVY. Do I look ‘all bulked up’ to YOU? NO !!!
So, if you know a woman that’s skipping out on this important component in their fitness programs, give them a good hard shake for me, ok? Smarten them up and get them lifting now and lifting heavy.
