How Did I Get My Butt Kicked This Weekend? KETTLEBELLS!!
Hey gang!! How’s it going?
It’s Monday. And I’m beat.
This weekend, what I needed most was a rest from the weekend! LOL
Why you ask?
I’ll tell you!
KETTLEBELLS !!
I took a two-day intensive Kettlebell Training Course this weekend hoping to learn a new, fun and ‘let’s step it up a notch‘ kinda workout for myself and for my clients and let me tell you:
I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED.
I came home with a body-wide case of DOMS!!
… oooo, and you know how I feel about those!! Love them, LOVE THEM!!!
Check it out:
So, today I recover.
Find out more about Ajamu Bernard and his awesome training courses at KBell Training Academy (and btw, he also has a kick-ass video available for anyone who’s not close enough to get the ‘in-person’ version, definitely worth picking up!).
And special thanks to Wendy Peterson and Martina Yabekova for letting me film them for this post (and subsequently making me look bad!! LOL… kidding chicks, you’re both awesome and inspiring to me… thanks again!).
And last but not least, thanks to the guys at Canadian Kettlebells for all the bruises (and, again I’m kidding… once I get my form down I won’t have this problem anymore, so it’s my fault, not theirs!). They’re damn nice kettlebells, too!
Oh! And psssst, if want to order some Kettlebells for yourself or your clients, I’ve got the inside skinny and can get you a pretty sweet deal (that means DISCOUNT) so get ahold of me and I’ll set you up. Just sayin’…
That’s it for today, I think I’m going to go soak in some epsom salts now! HAHA!
Have a fit, fun and fantastic day!

The Kettlebells do look intense, no wonder you have bruises! I enjoyed watching the demonstration portion of the video and how hard lifting the Kettlebells looked (and kicking your butt) =)

HAHAHA ROBYN!! I’ll bet you enjoyed watching ME get MY butt kicked for a change, eh? LOLLL!!!!

I’m no kettlebell expert, but you might struggle with the 16kg bell on some of the exercises. It might be worth your while alternating some of the drills with one of your lighter dumbbells. eg. practice your turkish get up using a 5-10kg dumbbell until you are comfortable with the movement … then gradually start using the heavier bell.

thanks foxy… as a matter of fact I was thinking the very same thing (well that and trading this one in for either 2 x 12kg or 1 x 12 + 1 x 10kg)…

another convert :)
re: jerks – focus on dropping under the weight rather than pressing them up
Good snatch…ahem
instead of epsom salts try a foam roller – pain, but a good pain!
RE: Getups – doing them without a weight is pretty challenging especially with a focus on good body structure

Looks like a new challenge alright! Where do you get the good deal on the kettlebells? I feel like spending a little today!
thanks, Jay.

Glad you liked the Kettlebell workout. I live near Toronto, and I think that you’ve motivated me to get to one of Ajamu’s classes.
There is a lot of stuff on Youtube on how not to get the KB slamming into your forearm. Jason C. Brown knows his stuff. Been using them at home for about a year now; my forearms liked it best when I learned how not to beat the crap out of them.
Thanks again!

Hey Mark, RIGHT ON!!! I’m sure Ajamu will be thrilled to know that (tell him I sent ya!! LOL).
thanks for the tips too, I’m practicing with forearms that are STILL sore today (and bruises that STILL show on my delts/biceps). But I’m getting it.

Hey Mark,
I’ll be looking out for you. We’re doing KBell boot camps at Richard Memorial Park on Lakeshore starting after May 24.
